Preventive & Wellness Care
Helping you stay healthy through routine screenings, early detection, and proactive medical care — serving Northville, Plymouth, Canton, and Livonia.
At TheMDClinic in Northville, MI, we believe the best medicine is the kind you never need. Our preventive care approach is grounded in current USPSTF, ACOG, and ACC/AHA guidelines — meaning every screening we recommend has evidence behind it, and we'll always explain why it's right for you specifically.
Annual Physical Exams
A yearly physical is the foundation of long-term health. We conduct comprehensive head-to-toe assessments for adults of all ages — reviewing your medical history, vital signs, family history, and lifestyle — and use that visit to determine which screenings are appropriate for your age, sex, and risk profile.
Metabolic & Cardiovascular Screening
Lipid Profile (Cholesterol Screening)
Per the 2026 ACC/AHA guidelines, lipid screening is recommended starting in young adulthood, with frequency determined by your individual cardiovascular risk factors.
Hemoglobin A1C (Diabetes & Prediabetes)
Recommended for adults aged 35–70 who are overweight or obese. Broader screening is available based on individual risk factors.
Blood Pressure Monitoring
Recommended for all adults 18 and older. Hypertension is one of the most treatable — and most overlooked — risk factors for heart disease and stroke.
ASCVD Risk Assessment
We use validated 10-year and 30-year cardiovascular risk calculators to guide treatment and lifestyle decisions, not just lab values in isolation.
Thyroid Screening (TSH)
Offered based on symptoms, risk factors, or clinical indication. TSH plays an important role when clinically appropriate.
Cancer Screenings & Early Detection
Cervical Cancer Screening
We keep track of when you're due and coordinate your screening with our trusted OB/GYN colleagues. Guidelines recommend a Pap smear every 3 years for women ages 21–29, and primary HPV testing every 5 years for ages 30–65, with self-collected HPV testing now an endorsed option.
Breast Cancer Screening (Mammogram)
Recommended every 1–2 years starting at age 40 for average-risk women, per the 2024 USPSTF update.
Colorectal Cancer Screening
Starting at age 45. We'll walk you through your options — colonoscopy, Cologuard, or FIT (fecal immunochemical test) — with an honest discussion of the risks, benefits, and convenience of each.
Lung Cancer Screening (Low-Dose CT)
Recommended annually for adults aged 50–80 with a 20+ pack-year smoking history who currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years.
Prostate Cancer Screening (PSA)
A shared decision-making conversation for men aged 55–69, and earlier (ages 40–45) for Black men and those with a family history. We do not offer PSA as a routine automatic test — we discuss it with you first.
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening
One-time abdominal ultrasound recommended for men aged 65–75 who have ever smoked.
Bone Health
DEXA Scan (Bone Density Screening)
Recommended for women aged 65 and older, and for younger postmenopausal women with risk factors, to screen for osteoporosis and assess fracture risk.
Infectious Disease & Behavioral Health Screenings
Hepatitis C Screening
One-time screening recommended for all adults aged 18–79.
HIV Screening
Recommended for all adults aged 15–65.
STI Screening
Chlamydia and gonorrhea screening for sexually active women under 25 and older women at increased risk.
Depression Screening
Recommended for all adults, including pregnant and postpartum patients.
Alcohol & Substance Use Screening
Offered routinely as part of your preventive visit.
Adult Immunizations
We review your vaccine needs at every visit, following current ACIP recommendations, and coordinate your vaccinations with your local pharmacy so you can get them conveniently close to home.
Influenza
Recommended annually for all adults.
COVID-19
Per current CDC recommendations.
Shingrix
Shingles vaccine — adults 50+.
Tdap / Td
Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis booster.
Pneumococcal
PCV15 / PCV20 based on age and risk.
Hepatitis B
Recommended for all adults under 60; available for adults 60+ based on risk factors or by request.
HPV Vaccine
Routinely recommended through age 26; shared decision-making for ages 27–45.
MMR & Varicella
For adults without evidence of immunity.
Integrative & Wellness Counseling
We're open to discussing evidence-informed complementary approaches — including certain supplements and traditional medicine practices — as part of a broader wellness conversation. These are supportive tools, not replacements for primary medical care, and we'll always give you a straight, honest perspective.
